What Is THCA?

THCA stands for tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, a naturally occurring cannabinoid in raw hemp and cannabis plants.
Unlike THC, THCA is non-psychoactive. It won’t cause a “high” in its raw state.
Found in high concentrations in fresh flower before exposure to heat.

How THCA Converts to THC

THCA decarboxylates when exposed to heat (smoking, vaping, or baking).
This process removes a carboxyl group, turning THCA into delta-9 THC, the compound known for psychoactive effects.

Why THCA Flower Is Federally Legal

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp products with less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight.
Since THCA isn’t delta-9 THC, hemp flower rich in THCA is considered compliant and legal under federal law.
